SSID stands for Service Set Identifier, a unique name that identifies a wireless network. Devices use the SSID to connect to a specific network. Users can see available SSIDs when searching for Wi-Fi networks. It's essential to choose a secure SSID to prevent unauthorized access to the network.

You can create up to 16 SSIDs per cluster as per your requirement and the procedure to do so is explained as follows.

To create a WLAN/SSID, First, you have to create a Network Interface Profile. In Network Interface we have two options

1). To create LAN Interface
2). WAN Interface, Choose a suitable option for them.

To learn more about Network Interface Profile kindly follow the below link-

Let's check one multiple SSID scenario to understand.

1) To Create SSID For Open/Password and Encryption.

Consider a scenario where you want your employees to use their AD /LDAP credentials to log in to the Wi-Fi network.

To create the first SSID for Employees, Go to Profiles > WLAN, and click " Create WLAN".

Check the below snapshot image for the reference.

Refer to the Enterprise authentication document to understand how to create a Radius profile.

   1. Provide a Profile Name and Description to the WLAN, to identify it uniquely from the other WLANs in the same cluster.

   2. Choose a Definition as Open/Password or Captive Portal.

2.1 Open/Password If the access to the SSID is to be provided either based on a password or without a password.

2.2 Captive Portal If access to the SSID is to be provided based on vouchers, surveys, etc.

   3. Provide a Name, it will be the name of the SSID.

   4. Select the Radio bands to be allowed i.e. 2.4GHz, 5GHz, or both.

Click on Security, Select the Security mode, Password, if the definition is Open/Password and Encryption.

Configure network interface for WLAN profile for mapping LAN/WAN as per user network requirements.
Now check into the "Network Interface" section, Network interface creation will be based on what mode you have configured your Ray AP, refer to the below images.

The gateway option is selected for the Edge devices or AP if the mode is set as Gateway, refer to the below image.

The Bridge Firewall option is selected for the AP if the mode is set as Bridge + firewall, refer to the below image.

For enabling the feature of whitelisting and blacklisting, kindly click on the space provided a new pop-up will open

Click on the Save button, Now you have created SSID successfully.

2) To create an SSID on the cluster for Captive Portal.

To create the second SSID for Employees, Go to Profiles >> WLAN, and click " Create WLAN".

Choose the definition as "Captive portal" then choose your desired type of Captive portal from the "Captive Portal" field.

   1. Provide a Profile Name and Description to the WLAN, to identify it uniquely from the other WLANs in the same cluster.

   2. Choose a Definition of as Captive Portal.

   3. Provide a Name, it will be the name of the SSID.

   4. Select the Radio bands to be allowed i.e. 2.4GHz, 5GHz, or both.

   5. Select captive portal type as click to survey, voucher, survey + voucher.

   6. Select the created Plan. (Plan can be created under the 'Captive Portal' menu)

    7. Select the Network Interface profiles and security as None or Password Authentication, as per requirement.
