How to create web filtering policy

Web filtering is the process of controlling and restricting access to certain websites or online content based on predefined criteria. It involves using techniques like URL filtering, keyword filtering, and content analysis to block or allow access to specific websites. Web filtering is commonly used to protect users from harmful or inappropriate content, ensure a safe online environment in educational institutions, and enhance productivity in corporate settings. It can be implemented at different levels, including network-level, proxy-based, or client-based filtering.

Creating WEB FILTERING in RAY Controller includes three steps:

1. Creating Web-filtering Policy

2. Mapping the Policy in the Security group.

3. Mapping the security group in WLAN.

1. To create Web-filtering Policy

  Go to Profiles>Available Profile>create policy.

  GO TO DEFINITIONS

  • In definitions have many options select one of them e.g. Web Filtering Policy.

 Other options are:-

  • Application Filtering Policy

  • DNS Filtering Policy

  • Web Filtering Policy

  • Device Policy

  • Quota Policy

  • Time Policy

  • Endpoint Firewall Policy

  • Inbound Firewall Policy

  • Internal Network Firewall Policy

  • Outbound Firewall Policy

  • Speed Policy

  • Choose Web Filtering Policy Allow /DenyBlock content in Block category for example Alcohol & Tobacco, Hate & Intolerance
    • Allow all security options

Ex

clude domains from filtering e.g. www.ray.life.com

Add remark and submit

2. Now we have to assign this web filtering policy to the security group.

To assign the policy to the security group follow the below steps:-

Step1:- Go to Profile

Step2:- Go to Available Profile

Step3:- Go to Security Group

Step4:- Go to +Create Security Group

Step5:- Create/fill Profile Name, Description, and Definitions, choose group as the definition.

Step6:- Fill out Group Details and select Member type which is suitable.

Step7:- Go to Web Filtering Policy

Step:- Click on Enable Web Filtering Policy and select policy that we have to map

Step10:- Go to Advance Select Suitable options and click on save & attach

Now we created the Security Group successfully.

Step11:- To publish security group go to Actions and click on the three dot

Step12:- Select Publish in current cluster

Step13:- Fill the remark and click on the Publish button

Now, the Security group is to be called in WLAN. For creating WLAN please refer to the provided link.

This way web-filtering policy can be implemented.

You can test if a web-filter policy is implemented successfully using Web Filter Test-Case.

Thanks
