Creating a Ray VM on Esxi:
In this article, we are going to cover the steps required for creating a Ray VM from a .vmdk in VMware ESXi Hypervisor.
Ray VM allows for an enterprise network that want host a Ray Edge gateway in their virtual infrastructure to enable all the features supported by a Ray Edge hardware appliance such as SD-WAN, HSIA, BFSI and Captive Portal to extend to their Virtual Networks.
Below are the steps to create a Ray VM in VMware ESXi:
- Request for a download link to the current Ray VM image. (This comes in .vmdk format)
- Using the link provided, download and save the Ray image file.
- Upload the .vmdk file you just download to the VMware ESXi data store.
- In VMware ESXi, register a new VM and select version as other linux version 64 bit (Name VM according to your preference)
- Remove the hard disk that gets added by default when creating a new VM.
- Click on Add existing hard disk and select the vmdk file that you uploaded to the ESXi data store.
- For the newly added hard disk, Change the controller location as follows :
8. Go to VM options and change boot options to BIOS.
9. You can now Save your VM Configurations. your Ray VM is ready to boot and run.
