How to create Web-filtering Policy

Web filtering is the process of controlling and restricting access to certain websites or online content based on predefined criteria. It involves using techniques like URL filtering, keyword filtering, and content analysis to block or allow access to specific websites. Web filtering is commonly used to protect users from harmful or inappropriate content, ensure a safe online environment in educational institutions, and enhance productivity in corporate settings. It can be implemented at different levels, including network-level, proxy-based, or client-based filtering.

For Creating Web-Filtering Policy in RAY Controller includes three steps:

1. Creating Web-filtering Policy

2. Mapping the Policy in the Security group.

3. Mapping the security group in WLAN.

1. To create a Web-Filtering Policy

Step1. Go to Profiles.

Step2. Go to Policy.

Step3. click on Create policy.

Step4. Give a Profile name and Description, After that click on the Definitions.

Note: In definitions have many options select one of them e.g. Web Filtering Policy.

Step5. In Web-Filtering, two options are there, select any as per the requirement.

Allow- If some particular URLs are to be allowed, then the rest will be blocked.

Deny- If some particular URLs are to be blocked, then the rest will be allowed.

Step6. Filter categories, for example Alcohol & Tobacco, Hate & Intolerance.

Step7. Exclude domains from filtering e.g. www.ray.life.com

Step8.  Add remark and submit

2. Now we have to assign this web filtering policy to the security group.

To assign the policy to the security group follow the below steps:-

Step1.  Go to Profile

Step2. Go to Security Group

Step3. Go to +Create Security Group

Step4. Create/fill Profile Name, Description, and Definitions, and choose group as definition.

Step5.- Fill up Group Details and select a suitable Member type.

Step6. Go to Web Filtering Policy

Step7.  Click on Enable Web Filtering Policy and select policy that we have to map.

Step8. Go to Advance Select Suitable mode and click on save.

Now we created the Security Group successfully.

Now, the Security group is to be called in WLAN. For creating WLAN please refer to the provided link.

This way web-filtering policy can be implemented.

You can test if a web-filter policy is implemented successfully using Web Filter Test-Case.
