A quota by definition is a fixed share of something that a person or group is entitled to receive or bound to contribute.

In this scenario, free internet access is what a user who accesses our Wi-Fi and captive portal is entitled to receive, however, we need to determine the fixed quantity of time or volume that internet access should last.

Ray provides 2 types of quota access:

  1. Volume (Data bundle access in MBs)
  2. Time (Time/Duration based access in Hrs/days)

To implement Quota-Policy in the network, the following steps are to be followed:

1. Create a captive portal

1.1- Go to > Captive Portals Portals Create Portal
1.2-Go to Pre Authentication and mark the suitable option.

2. We need to create a quota policy.

         2.1) Go to Profiles.

          2.2) Then, Go to Policy.

2.3) Now, click on + Create Policy, as soon as you click, a new pop-up will open.

2.4) From the new pop-up, Fill-up the details in Profile name, Description, and Definition, Select the definition as Quota Policy.

You will be provided with multiple other options, such as Device Policy, Time Policy, Endpoint Firewall Policy, etc.

Select the quota type, out of the 2 options available:

-Volume Type, for setting quota according to the volume of data to be granted to the client and

-Time type, for setting quota according to how long access is to be granted.

Select Quota Renewal type, out of the 2 options:

-One time, for a single time offering the network access.

-Recurring, for multiple times offering the network access.

2.5) Fill up all the other required options for Save & Attach.

          2.6) Click on submit.

This way the quota policy would be created.

3. Quota-Policy is to be attached to the Security Group.

          3.1) Go to Profiles.

          3.2) Go to Security Group.

3.3) Click on + Create Security Group.

3.4) A new Pop-up will open and now, Provide the Profile Name, Description, and Definition as a Group.
3.5) In the Group Details, Provide the group name, and select the member type.

Note: Member type would be the Name according to which the entries will be created of the quota-clients.

3.6) Click on the Quota Policy select the Policy created earlier and Tick on enable Notifications can be marked if wish to send notification about data consumption. Percentages can be also selected, for sending notifications.

3.7) Click on Advance, and select the AP mode, in which you're using the AP. It Could be either Gateway or  Bridge + Firewall.

          3.8) confirm it and save.

4. The security group is then called in WLAN.

          4.1) Go to Profiles.

           4.2) Go to WLAN.

4.3) Click on the three dots, below Action if pre-existing WLAN is to be chosen, if a new WLAN is to be created then, click on + Create WLAN button

4.4) Click on View, if using a pre-existing WLAN.

4.5) In the Groups Section, Select the Group created earlier as Quota-Group.

4.6) Provide the remarks and Click on Save.

This way a new Quota-Policy will be created and attached with the security group and WLAN. Hence, Users can avail the benefits accordingly.
